Stripe is a household name, with a wide suite of financial products used by businesses of all sizes; Whop is building an end-to-end API for running a business, including payments, payouts, compliance, advertising, security, fraud monitoring, tax, and affiliates.

It gives businesses of any size the tools they need to launch, operate, and grow.

So how do the two compare? This review considers Whop and Stripe across their capabilities, scope, and pricing to help you decide which is the right fit for your business.

How we compared them

We've compared Whop and Stripe using product documentation, developer resources, and pricing pages, checked on October 26, 2026.

Each section examines the same capabilities across both platforms, followed by a summary of the key differences in features, functionality, and use cases.

Payments

Whop and Stripe are built around payment acceptance, giving businesses the tools to accept cards, digital wallets, local payment methods, and buy now, pay later (BNPL) both online and in person.

Fee Whop Stripe
Domestic cards (standard rate) 2.7% + $0.30 2.9% + $0.30
International cards +1.5% +1.5%
Currency conversion +1% +1%
ACH debit 1.5% (max $5) 0.8% (max $5)
Financing and BNPL 15% per transaction (20% for ClarityPay No Interest) Varies by method, e.g. Klarna 5.99% + $0.30

Stripe

Stripe supports 125+ payment methods across 135+ currencies, and businesses can accept payments from customers in 195+ countries. Merchants can accept payment via cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna, Afterpay, and regional bank payments. Stripe also offers support for stablecoin payments, such as USDC.

Businesses can accept payments through Stripe-hosted checkout pages, embedded payment forms, payment links, or custom API integrations. Stripe also offers physical card readers (Stripe Terminal) and Tap to Pay support for both iPhone and Android.

Whop

Whop's payment acceptance supports 100+ payment methods across 135+ currencies and customers in 195 countries. Alongside cards, digital wallets, local payment methods (including local bank payments), and crypto, Whop also offers 13 financing and BNPL options including Klarna, Afterpay, and Splitit.

Businesses using Whop can take payments via hosted or embeddable checkout, checkout links, or use the Whop REST API. In-person sales are supported by Tap to Pay on iPhone for merchants in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and Poland.

Key difference: Stripe offers more payment methods and in-person hardware, but businesses must be based in one of its 46+ supported countries. Whop lets businesses sign up and sell from almost anywhere in the world, outside a short list of sanctioned countries.

Orchestration

Payment orchestration directs transactions between multiple processors to improve authorization rates and reduce failed payments.

If one payment processor declines a transaction or experiences downtime, the payment can be retried through another provider.

Fee Whop Stripe
Orchestration 0.8% per transaction Not published (private preview), plus each processor's own fees

Stripe

Stripe Orchestration (in private preview as of October 2026) lets businesses create rules in the Stripe Dashboard to automatically route card payments between Stripe and supported third-party processors – currently Adyen, Braintree, and Worldpay – based on factors such as the cardholder's country, currency, and transaction amount. These rules can also direct failed payments to another selected processor for one additional attempt.

Businesses connect their own accounts with those processors by adding API keys in the Stripe Dashboard, and each processor's own fees and terms still apply to the payments routed to it.

It works with Stripe integrations like Payments and Billing, but doesn't support non-card payments or Stripe products such as Link, Capital, Connect, or Terminal. Businesses can view their payment success rates and accepted payment volumes across processors in the Stripe Dashboard.

Whop

Whop's smart payment routing is an optional add-on, charged at 0.8% per transaction when enabled. Payments are automatically routed to the PSP most likely to succeed – if one route fails, Whop automatically retries with others to maximize success.

Businesses using smart routing on Whop have seen a ~6% boost in revenue and a 5-10% increase in authorization rate, according to Whop’s network page.

0:00
/0:51

As Maddie Cohen, Head of Trust at Whop, explains, "Every processor has its own fraud rules. Some overextend blocks that another processor wouldn't flag at all."

That's why smart routing works. It lowers false declines and helps sellers accept more cross-border payments than a single-PSP setup would. Whop is integrated with Stripe, Checkout.com, Adyen, Airwallex, and more.

Key difference: Stripe offers configurable, rules-based routing through a private-preview product, while Whop integrates automated smart routing and payment failover directly into its payment infrastructure.

Billing and subscriptions

Recurring billing is a key part of how a subscription-based business runs. Stripe and Whop both offer billing as an added layer, with features that cover different access models, invoicing, and payment recovery.

Fee Whop Stripe
Billing 0.5% per transaction 0.7% of billing volume (pay-as-you-go), or annual plans from $620/month for up to $100,000 monthly volume

Stripe

Stripe Billing supports flat-rate, per-seat, tiered, and usage-based subscriptions with native usage metering, free trials, installment schedules, setup fees, and automatic billing adjustments for plan changes. For more advanced usage-based billing, Stripe also offers Metronome, which provides real-time usage metering, flexible pricing models, and revenue analytics.

It automates recurring invoices and subscription management, and offers failed-payment recovery through Smart Retries, using AI to determine the best times to retry declined payments. Businesses can configure retry schedules and recovery periods, while customers can manage subscriptions and payment methods through a self-service billing portal.

Metronome is priced separately from Stripe Billing. The Startup plan costs 0.8% of billing volume plus $0.04 per 1,000 ingested events.

Whop

Whop Billing supports recurring payments with customizable billing periods, multiple subscription tiers, free trials, installments, and the ability to set a separate initial fee for each subscription product.

Businesses wanting to run usage-based billing can do so by tracking consumption and charging saved payment methods through the API.

Invoicing tools support one-time and recurring charges, custom billing cycles, and the option to email invoices or automatically charge customers' saved payment methods. Businesses can accept multiple payment methods, send automatic reminders at 3, 7, 14, 30, and 60 days past due, track invoice statuses, and export billing records.

Whop retries failed payments over five days before canceling, and you choose whether members keep access while past due.

Customers can also manage subscriptions, update payment methods, view invoices and receipts, cancel plans, and transfer memberships through a self-service billing portal, which developers can link to directly through the API.

Billing on Whop includes all automated invoice generation, retries, and lifecycle handling.

Key difference: Stripe offers native metering and more pricing models for complex SaaS billing, while Whop covers the core subscription toolkit, with usage-based billing available through its API, for less: 0.5% compared with Stripe Billing's 0.7% pay-as-you-go rate.

Risk and disputes

Both platforms offer fraud prevention and dispute management tools to help businesses identify suspicious transactions, reduce chargebacks, and respond to payment disputes.

Fee Whop Stripe
Fraud screening $0.07 per transaction Radar Lite included; paid plans from $10/month
3DS $0.03 per transaction Included on standard pricing; $0.03 per attempt on custom pricing, $0.12 standalone
Disputes $15 per dispute; 15% Dispute Fighter success fee on disputes won $15 per dispute, plus $15 to counter manually (refunded if won); Smart Disputes 30% of the amount if won
Dispute alerts $29 per alert $15 per Visa resolution, $29 per Mastercard resolution

Stripe

Stripe Radar uses machine learning to assess transactions for fraudulent activity in real time, working off payment patterns and signals across Stripe's network. It comes in varying tiers:

  • Radar Lite: included with standard Stripe Payments pricing, offering AI-powered fraud prevention for card payments, card-testing protection, and fraud alerts.
  • Radar Standard: extends fraud screening to all payment methods and adds fraud analytics, default rules and lists, and risk levels. Standard starts at $10/month for businesses and $20/month for platforms and marketplaces.
  • Radar Plus: introduces custom rules, risk scores, manual reviews, and adaptive 3D Secure authentication – starts at $14/month for businesses, $44/month for platforms.
  • Radar Pro: adds dynamic risk thresholds and protection against bot activity, free-trial abuse, and multiple-account fraud; Pro starts at $20/month for businesses, $70/month for platforms and marketplaces.

Stripe's dispute prevention tools (powered by Verifi from Visa and Ethoca from Mastercard) can resolve disputes before they become chargebacks. Dispute deflection lookups are included, Visa resolutions and Visa Compelling Evidence 3.0 blocks cost $15 each, and Mastercard resolutions cost $29.

These alerts work before a chargeback is filed, so the alerted payment is refunded automatically and the alert fee replaces the dispute fee rather than adding to it. Resolved disputes also don't count toward the business's dispute rate.

Each dispute a business receives incurs a $15 fee, and Stripe notes network fees can also apply in rare cases. Businesses that contest a dispute manually pay an additional $15, which is refunded if they win, bringing the total to $15 for a successful contest or $30 for an unsuccessful one.

Alternatively, Smart Disputes uses AI to prepare and submit evidence, charging 30% of the disputed amount for each dispute won, on top of the initial $15 fee. Unsuccessful Smart Disputes cases incur only the $15 dispute-received fee.

As a payment processor, Stripe can impose account holds and reserves to cover potential refunds and disputes.

Fixed reserves hold a percentage of each transaction until a specified release date, while rolling reserves hold a percentage of each transaction on a rolling basis.

Reserve periods typically run 30-90 days, and the percentage and duration depend on a business's risk profile, based on factors like dispute rates and payment activity.

Whop

Whop helps businesses identify suspicious transactions through a combination of machine-learning fraud detection, 3D Secure, and Risk Scores.

Sellers can choose from the following 3DS preferences:

  • Frictionless: Verify in the background when possible.
  • Challenge if required: Verify with the issuing bank only when required.
  • Mandate challenge: Always verify with the bank.

Purchases of $1,000 or more automatically use at least "Challenge if required."

0:00
/0:29

Risk Scores assign a rating from 0-100 to individual payments and buyers, using signals like device biometrics, purchase history, previous disputes, card-network fraud data, and transaction source.

Businesses can view risk labels and score breakdowns in their dashboard to investigate suspicious activity and take action.

“Essentially it's a decision tree that takes in these features and outputs a score between zero and one hundred. And then on top of that we do logistic regression in order to create the probability score.”
– Ritvik Gudlavalleti, Whop payments engineer

Custom payment rules can be created using risk scores, card country, card BIN, customer email, and IP address.

These rules determine whether a transaction is automatically allowed, blocked, flagged for manual review, or required to complete 3DS authentication. This gives sellers more control over fraud prevention, alongside their broader 3DS preferences and transaction-level Risk Scores.

Whop's Resolution Center helps prevent disputes from turning into chargebacks by allowing customers to submit refund requests directly to businesses. Customer communication, claim review, and refund issuing and configuration can all be managed from the dashboard.

If a formal chargeback occurs, Whop's Dispute Fighter can automatically gather evidence, including transaction records, access logs, and policy disclosures, and file a response on the business's behalf, with a 15% success fee charged on disputes it wins. Sellers can add supporting documentation and track deadlines and outcomes from the dashboard.

Early dispute alerts let businesses resolve potential chargebacks before they become formal disputes.

Automatic refund thresholds can be set, and flagged payments below that amount are refunded without manual intervention. This prevents them from becoming chargebacks or counting toward the business's dispute rate.

The Payment Health dashboard also tracks dispute and refund rates, chargeback reasons, and account risk status – this is where businesses can review dispute trends, identify issues, and see any active payment controls including reserves, payout delays, and automatic refund thresholds.

Whop may apply rolling or fixed reserves based on account risk (including dispute rates, sales history, unresolved Resolution Center cases, and fulfillment time).

Reserve amounts and holding periods are tailored to each account's risk, and may be reduced or removed as account health improves.

Whop's fraud and dispute tools are charged at flat per-event rates:

  • Radar: $0.07 per transaction
  • 3DS: $0.03 per transaction
  • Disputes: $15 per dispute, $29 per early dispute alert

Key difference: Stripe has tiered Radar plans, with each going deeper into abuse protection. Whop includes risk scoring, custom rules, and automatic evidence collection at flat per-event rates. Both charge $15 per dispute, though Stripe adds a second $15 when a business contests manually, and both offer automated dispute responses for a success fee on disputes won.

Payouts

Both Stripe and Whop provide payout API functionality and onboarding tools for platforms that need to distribute earnings to sellers, contractors, affiliates, and other recipients.

However, they differ in how payouts are integrated, which countries and payment methods they support, and how platforms manage fees and compliance.

Feature Whop Stripe

Who can send Businesses in any non-sanctioned country Connect: platforms processing on Stripe. Global Payouts: US and UK businesses
Payout methods Bank, wire, Venmo, RTP, crypto Bank, debit card, wire, stablecoins
Instant payouts 4% + $2.50 1% (Connect)
Standard payouts From $2.50 From $1.50, or included when Stripe processes payments

Stripe

Stripe offers two products for sending cross-border payouts: Stripe Connect, and Stripe Global Payouts.

Stripe Connect is designed for marketplace payouts, allowing platforms that process payments on Stripe to accept customer payments and distribute earnings to connected accounts.

Businesses can split payments, route funds between accounts, collect platform fees, and control when payees receive their earnings. Payouts can be scheduled daily, weekly, monthly, or initiated manually.

Stripe advertises Connect payouts to 118 countries, but final availability depends on the platform's location, recipient country, and how payments are processed.

Standard payouts go to eligible bank accounts or debit cards, while Instant Payouts let eligible recipients access funds (typically within 30 minutes), including on weekends and holidays. Instant Payouts are only available in 13 regions, including the US, UK, euro area, Canada, and Australia.

Stripe also supports stablecoin payouts for eligible connected accounts.

Stripe Connect has two pricing options:

  • Stripe handles pricing: Stripe sets and collects processing fees from connected accounts, and the platform pays no account, payout, or tax-reporting fees.
  • Platform handles pricing: the platform pays Stripe's processing fees and sets its own, paying $2 per monthly active account plus 0.25% + $0.25 per payout.

Under both options, Instant Payouts cost 1% of payout volume and cross-border payouts start at 0.25%.

Then there's Stripe Global Payouts. This is a payouts-only solution, so businesses not using Stripe to process their payments (or those using multiple processors) can still use it for payouts.

Recipients don't need Stripe accounts, and businesses can initiate one-time or recurring payouts through the Dashboard, hosted forms, or the API.

Stripe advertises Global Payouts as having coverage across 160+ countries, using local bank transfers, international wires, debit-card payouts, and stablecoins, although individual payment rails have different availability and rollout statuses.

Global Payouts has separate pricing, starting at $1.50 for domestic bank transfers and $1.50 plus 0.75% for domestic debit-card payouts. International payouts start at $1.50, with cross-border fees from 0.25% and currency conversion fees from 0.5%.

While you don't need to use Stripe as your processor, you'll need a Stripe Treasury account to use Global Payouts. This is the account you fund to be able to send and route payouts from.

As of October 2026, Global Payouts is available to businesses in the US and UK, and Stripe recommends it for businesses that already hold the licenses needed to move money themselves. Businesses in Australia and most EU countries can request private preview access.

Check out our guide to the top Stripe Connect alternatives for platforms and marketplaces sending global payouts.

Whop

Whop lets businesses pay sellers, affiliates, contractors, and other recipients in 187+ countries.

Recipients can withdraw their earnings through next-day ACH, traditional bank wires, international local bank transfers, Venmo (US recipients only), or crypto, depending on their location and eligibility.

Instant withdrawals are also available through supported methods, allowing recipients to access their funds within minutes.

Marketplaces and platforms can create connected accounts for sellers, collect customer payments, and distribute earnings to recipients.

Platforms can choose between two payment flows:

  • Direct charges: Customer payments go directly to the recipient's connected account, while the platform collects an application fee. The connected account is responsible for fees, refunds, and disputes.
  • Platform transfers: Customer payments go to the platform first, which then transfers the recipient's share to their connected account. The platform controls how much and when to transfer, and takes responsibility for fees, refunds, and disputes.

Once funds reach a connected account, recipients withdraw through their available payment methods. Platforms can manage payouts through the API, with endpoints for initiating payouts, retrieving withdrawal methods and fee quotes, and tracking payout statuses, exchange rates, estimated arrival times, and failures.

Whop also provides a self-service embedded payout portal that platforms can add to their websites or apps using Whop Elements.

0:00
/0:24

Recipients can view balances and transactions, complete KYC, add payout methods, and withdraw funds without leaving the platform. Alternatively, payees can be redirected to a Whop-hosted portal.

Platforms can choose to absorb payout costs, pass them on to recipients, or add their own markup fee.

“Prior to Whop, any other solution we had tried was predominantly just a broken flow where we'd be billing on one platform, then transferring the funds to our bank, and then using another payout provider.”
– Branson Packard, CEO of FoodFluence

Businesses with global staff can also pay team members and other Whop users directly from their Whop dashboard. These transfers arrive instantly in the recipient's balance and carry a 3% fee, after which recipients can withdraw through their available payout methods.

Payout fees vary by method and destination, with live quotes available through the API before each payout.

Standard rates include $2.50 for next-day ACH and $23.00 for bank wires, with instant bank deposits at 4% + $2.50, crypto at 5% + $1.00, and Venmo at 5% + $2.50. International local bank transfers are priced by country.

Key difference: Stripe uses separate products depending on whether you process payments on Stripe, while Whop handles platform payouts to 187+ countries, compliance, and recipient payout portals in one product.

KYC and onboarding

KYC and onboarding processes determine what information recipients need to provide, how verification is completed, and when they can access their earnings.

Stripe and Whop provide tools for identity verification and onboarding. Here's how they compare.

Feature Whop Stripe
Onboarding options Hosted link, embedded Elements, or API Hosted, embedded, or API (Connect)
Verification types KYC and KYB, with ID document and selfie checks Connect onboarding, plus Stripe Identity for ID and selfie checks
When KYC is required Before withdrawal; recipients can earn up to $5,000 first During Connect onboarding
Tax forms W-9/W-8 collection; 1099-K and 1099-NEC issued 1099s free when Stripe handles pricing; otherwise from $2.99 per form

Stripe

Stripe Connect offers three ways to onboard connected accounts.

Platforms can use Stripe's prebuilt hosted or embedded flows, which update automatically as requirements change, or build their own onboarding through the API and manage verification requirements themselves.

Stripe's hosted and embedded onboarding support 46+ countries and 14 languages.

Stripe also offers networked onboarding, which allows existing Stripe users to reuse their information rather than completing the entire registration process again.

For additional identity checks, Stripe Identity can verify government-issued IDs from more than 100 countries and match them against a selfie. Document verification costs $1.50 per verification, while US ID number lookups cost $0.50. The first 50 verifications are free.

Stripe also supports 1099 tax reporting for connected accounts. E-filing is free when Stripe handles pricing for connected accounts; otherwise, it costs $2.99 per IRS e-file, $1.49 per state e-file, and $2.99 per mailed form when the platform handles pricing.

Unlike Connect, if a business uses Stripe Global Payouts, it is responsible for its own compliance requirements, which may include holding a money transmitter license. Recipients typically just provide an email address and name, with extra details such as an address or tax ID required for some countries and payout methods.

Whop

Whop also supports multiple ways to handle onboarding and verification for connected accounts.

Platforms can send recipients a hosted onboarding link, integrate verification into their own websites or apps using Whop Elements, or submit verification information through the API.

Whop's embeddable verification components handle both KYC and know your business (KYB) checks.

This allows platforms to collect identity and business information, request supporting documents, handle outstanding compliance requirements, and display verification statuses within their own interface.

KYC is required before recipients can withdraw funds, but per Whop's payouts page, Whop allows recipients to earn up to $5,000 before completing KYC. This means platforms can let their users start earning without requiring verification immediately.

Whop also handles tax-form collection and reporting for payout recipients, including collecting W-9 and W-8 forms during onboarding and issuing applicable 1099-K and 1099-NEC forms.

Key difference: Stripe offers networked onboarding and standalone identity checks, while Whop lets recipients earn up to $5,000 before KYC, with verification and tax form collection built into payouts.

Tax

Managing taxes across different countries involves more than just calculating the correct amount at checkout. Businesses need to collect tax, file returns, and remit payments to the relevant authorities.

Stripe and Whop provide automated tax tools, with different options for merchants to manage their responsibilities.

Fee Whop Stripe
Tax calculation and collection 2% per transaction when tax is collected Tax Basic: 0.5% per transaction (no-code) or $0.50 per transaction (API)
Registration, filing, and remittance Included in the 2% with "Whop collects and remits" Tax Complete: from $90/month on an annual contract

Stripe

Stripe Tax automates sales tax, VAT, and GST calculation and collection in more than 100 countries – including all US states.

It determines the applicable tax using factors like the customer's location, the seller's location, and the type of product or service being sold. Stripe supports more than 700 product and service categories, including physical and digital goods as well as subscriptions.

Businesses can enable automatic tax collection on sales made through Stripe Checkout, Billing, Invoicing, Payment Links, or the API.

Stripe Tax also supports VAT ID validation, tax exemptions, reverse charges, and tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive pricing. Its tax monitoring tools track sales against local registration thresholds and alert businesses when they may need to start collecting tax in a new jurisdiction.

It offers two tax plans:

  • Tax Basic: Calculates and collects applicable taxes where the business is registered, but doesn't include registration or filing services. Tax Basic costs 0.5% per transaction through supported no-code integrations, or $0.50 per transaction through the API, with no recurring subscription fee.
  • Tax Complete: Adds automated tax registration and filing services in 90+ countries, alongside calculation and collection. Tax Complete starts at $90/month on an annual contract, which includes 2 registrations per year, 200 transactions per month, 2,000 calculation API calls per month, and 4 filings per year. Additional fees may apply when businesses exceed their plan limits or require certain international services.

Per Stripe's 'File and remit' documentation, Tax Complete provides automated filing in the US, and for selected registrations in Ireland and Canada.

For other jurisdictions, businesses can use Stripe's integrated tax partners to file returns and remit collected taxes. Stripe also provides tax reports and transaction exports for businesses managing their own filings.

Using Stripe Tax doesn't automatically transfer a business's tax liability to Stripe.

Businesses remain responsible for their applicable tax obligations, while platforms using Stripe Connect must determine whether the platform or its connected accounts are responsible for collecting and remitting tax on each transaction.

Whop

Whop Tax Service lets businesses automate sales tax and VAT calculation, collection, filing, and remittance alongside payment acceptance.

0:00
/0:25

There are three options available to businesses that determine how much of the process Whop handles:

  • Whop collects and remits tax: Whop can calculate the applicable sales tax or VAT, add or include it at checkout, collect it from the customer, and handle the required filings and remittance to tax authorities. This option covers supported US states and territories, the EU, and the UK, where Whop has the relevant tax registrations.
  • Whop collects tax, you remit: Whop calculates and collects applicable tax at checkout, then includes the collected amount in the business's payout. The business remains responsible for registering where required, filing returns, and remitting the tax. This option supports all US states and territories, plus 90+ countries through third-party tax provider Numeral.
  • Handle tax yourself: Businesses can continue using their existing tax processes, taking responsibility for calculation, collection, registration, filing, and remittance, with no tax calculated or added at checkout by Whop.

The key distinction between the two options where Whop collects your tax is who handles the money after checkout. If a business chooses for Whop to collect and remit, collected tax is kept separate from the seller's earnings to be remitted by Whop on their behalf.

If Whop solely collects tax, the tax is included in the payout, and the business must set it aside and pay the relevant authorities itself.

Businesses can choose whether their prices are tax-inclusive, with tax in the displayed price, or tax-exclusive, with applicable tax added at checkout. Whop provides receipts showing collected tax and, where available, tax invoices. Order details and reporting exports provide transaction-level records.

Both automated tax options cost 2% per transaction when tax is collected, in addition to standard payment acceptance fees. Businesses that choose to handle tax themselves don't pay an additional Whop Tax Service fee.

Choosing a managed option doesn’t, by itself, remove your own tax obligations. You remain responsible for obligations from sales outside Whop.

Key difference: Stripe Tax charges separately for calculation (Tax Basic) and for registration and filing (Tax Complete, from $90/month), with automated filing in the US, Ireland, and Canada. Whop Tax Service is priced at a flat 2% when tax is collected, and its collect-and-remit option handles filing and remittance across supported US states, the UK, and the EU.

Beyond money movement

While payments are a key focus for both platforms, businesses also need ways to attract new customers and grow their business, including the ability to run ads and affiliate programs, and form LLCs and C corps.

Customer acquisition

Whop and Stripe approach customer acquisition differently. Stripe focuses primarily on payments and financial infrastructure, with some tools that help businesses reach customers.

Whop offers native ad distribution through Whop Ads, with conversion tracking through the Whop Pixel.

Feature Whop Stripe
Paid advertising Whop Ads across supported ad networks, using Whop-owned ad accounts No built-in ad product; business discoverability through Stripe Directory (public preview as of October 2026)
Conversion tracking Whop Pixel, with automatic tracking for Whop checkout Marketing analytics for Google and Meta Ads (waitlist), plus App Marketplace apps and GA4
Affiliate programs Built in, with automatic attribution and commission payouts Third-party apps from the App Marketplace

Stripe

Stripe offers discovery opportunities through its Stripe Directory (in public preview as of October 2026) and the App Marketplace.

Businesses can publish a public Stripe profile to appear in Directory search results, making their products and services discoverable to developers and AI agents looking for providers, software, APIs, and other business tools. Directory shows businesses' integrations, payment options, and ways for potential customers to connect with them.

Businesses that develop Stripe integrations can also publish apps on the Stripe App Marketplace, where other Stripe users can discover and install them.

Third-party affiliate and referral tools, such as FirstPromoter or Trackdesk, can also be installed from the App Marketplace for businesses wanting to run affiliate programs.

These channels can help businesses reach potential customers, although Stripe doesn't offer a built-in advertising product comparable to Whop Ads.

Whop

Whop offers customer acquisition tools alongside its payment infrastructure.

Whop Ads lets businesses launch and manage advertising campaigns across supported networks using Whop-owned ad accounts, which gives sellers access to priority bidding and lower cost per thousand impressions at scale.

Businesses can launch multiple ads in tandem, manage campaigns from their Whop dashboard, and fund ad spend using a credit card, Whop Card, or pending Whop balance. There are no setup fees, monthly fees, or minimum ad spend.

For conversion tracking, the Whop Pixel measures leads, registrations, purchases, and custom events across websites and sales funnels.

It supports integrations with platforms including Shopify, WooCommerce, WordPress, ClickFunnels, GoHighLevel, and Kajabi, as well as sales tools such as Calendly and WebinarJam.

Purchases processed through Whop checkout are tracked automatically.

Whop also offers a built-in affiliate program with unique referral links, automatic purchase attribution, and commission payouts. Businesses can set fixed or percentage-based commissions, offer one-time or recurring rewards, and customize rates.

Affiliate commissions are paid automatically after a 30-day waiting period.

Key difference: Stripe connects businesses to discovery and affiliate tools through Directory and its App Marketplace, while Whop builds paid advertising, conversion tracking, and an affiliate program into the same platform as payments and payouts.

Business formation

Most businesses will need a legal entity at some point. Stripe Atlas and Whop let founders establish US companies, obtain an Employer Identification Number (EIN), and arrange registered agent services.

Both also accommodate international founders who don't have a US Social Security number (SSN).

Here's how they differ:

Feature Whop Stripe
Entity types LLC or C corporation LLC or C corporation
States Any US state Delaware only
How to register Portal, API, or CLI Online through Stripe
Upfront cost $500, including state fees, EIN application, and first-year registered agent $500, including state fees, expedited processing, EIN, and first-year registered agent
Ongoing fee $100/year $100/year

Stripe

Stripe Atlas lets founders establish a Delaware LLC or C corporation online, including those based outside the US.

It prepares and files the formation documents, obtains the company's EIN from the IRS, and appoints a registered agent to receive official correspondence and legal notices.

Atlas also provides legal document templates developed with Cooley LLP. For C corporations, it supports issuing founder shares, preparing equity documents, and filing the 83(b) election. Founders can also generate fundraising documents, including Simple Agreements for Future Equity (SAFEs), through their Stripe Dashboard.

Delaware incorporation typically takes one business day. Founders can also begin accepting payments through Stripe before their EIN arrives, subject to eligibility, and access $2,500 in Stripe product credits alongside partner discounts.

Atlas costs $500 upfront, including Delaware state filing fees, expedited processing, the EIN application, and the first year of registered agent services.

The registered agent renews at $100 annually, while ongoing state taxes and compliance costs are separate.

Whop

Whop lets founders register an LLC or C corporation in their chosen US state, rather than restricting formation to Delaware.

Businesses can complete registration through Whop's online portal, while developers can integrate company formation directly into their applications using the API or CLI.

Whop handles state filings, prepares the formation documents, appoints a registered agent, and applies for the company's EIN. Founders provide their business name, industry, entity type, and ownership details, with Whop managing the filing process.

International founders can form a US company without an SSN. Whop recommends Wyoming because formations are completed the same day, but businesses can choose another state depending on their needs.

Formation times are generally similar for US and non-US founders, but obtaining an EIN can take longer without an SSN. Expedited EIN processing for non-US founders costs an additional $250.

Formation costs $500 upfront for either an LLC or C corporation, including state filing fees, the EIN application, and the first year of registered agent services. The ongoing fee is $100 annually, which includes maintaining a registered agent.

Once registered, businesses can use the same Whop account to accept payments, manage payouts, issue cards, and access other financial and business tools.

Key difference: Stripe Atlas focuses on Delaware companies, with built-in equity and fundraising documents for startups, while Whop lets founders form an LLC or C corporation in any US state through a portal, API, or CLI.

Developer tools and integrations

Both providers offer APIs, SDKs, testing environments, and embeddable components for developers who want to build custom experiences.

Their tooling also extends to AI-assisted development, with MCP servers that let coding agents access documentation and platform capabilities.

Feature Whop Stripe
SDKs TypeScript, Python, and Ruby Official libraries for major languages
Testing Separate sandbox environment Multiple sandboxes per account
Embeddable components Whop Elements for checkout, card fields, verification, and payout portals Stripe Elements and Connect embedded components

Stripe

Stripe offers extensive APIs and SDKs, webhooks, the Stripe CLI, and sandboxes for testing integrations independently. Stripe Elements and its embedded components support custom checkout, payment collection, and other financial workflows.

Stripe has an MCP server and agent skills, which allow AI assistants to work with its documentation and supported API operations.

Whop

Whop's API has SDKs for TypeScript, Python, Ruby, Rust, and Go, alongside webhooks and a sandbox for testing payments without moving real money.

Whop Elements provides embeddable components for checkout, card fields, identity verification, and payout portals, so developers can build these experiences directly into their products.

Whop offers two MCP servers for AI-assisted development: one for accessing documentation and another for interacting with its live API.

It also offers plugins for Claude Code and Grok, while the Whop CLI lets developers and AI agents manage products, payments, ads, and other business operations from the terminal.

Key difference: Both cover the same core developer tooling. Stripe offers a deeper ecosystem and multiple sandboxes per account, while Whop builds agent tooling (MCP servers, plugins, and the CLI) and embeddable Elements into the same API used for payments, payouts, verification, and formation.

Whop vs Stripe: pricing compared

While the tables above cover base fees for each feature, here's an example of what it would cost to run a business using Whop vs Stripe.

To keep things simple, this example assumes a US course marketplace making 200 card sales of $50 a month ($10,000), with all sales taxable across 3 states.

It also pays 20 recipients by standard bank payout each month, and receives 1 dispute.

Fees use each provider's published standard rates as of October 2026.

Monthly cost Whop Stripe
Card processing $330 $350
Fraud screening $14 $0 (Radar Lite included)
3DS $6 $0 (included)
Tax (collect, file, remit) $200 $430 (Tax Complete)
Payouts to 20 recipients $50 $65 (Connect)
Disputes (1) $15 $15
Monthly total $615 $860
Company formation (one-time) $500 $500

Pricing is illustrative in USD. Stripe assumes platform-managed Connect pricing and the $430/month Tax Complete tier on an annual contract, since the $90 tier covers only 2 registrations and 4 filings a year, and 3 states filing quarterly need 12. Whop assumes its collect-and-remit service is available in all 3 states. Each recipient receives about $400 ($8,000 in total), and Whop's Radar and 3DS fees apply to every transaction. Whop payout fees are counted as a cost to the marketplace, although by default they're deducted from recipients' balances.

A year of business for this marketplace costs $7,880 on Whop and $10,820 on Stripe.

Which should you choose?

Whop and Stripe both have the capabilities to power many of the same businesses, but their features, pricing, and scope vary from area to area.

The right choice depends on what you're building, where your customers are, and which capabilities you need beyond payment processing.

Choose Stripe if...

  • You have more complex billing requirements: Stripe Billing supports usage-based, per-seat, and tiered pricing, with advanced metering and revenue management tools.
  • You need a flexible retail POS provider: Stripe Terminal supports dedicated card readers, point-of-sale integrations, and Tap to Pay on iPhone and Android.
  • You're forming a Delaware startup and planning to raise investment: Stripe Atlas includes founder equity issuance, 83(b) election filing, and SAFE fundraising documents alongside incorporation.

Choose Whop if...

  • You're building a marketplace or platform that pays recipients globally: Whop combines payment collection, connected accounts, embedded onboarding, and payouts across 187+ countries.
  • You want customer acquisition tools alongside payments: Whop Ads, conversion tracking, and affiliate management help businesses attract customers and manage referral commissions.
  • You want to form a US company in any state: Whop supports LLC and C corp formation across US states, including Wyoming, and lets developers embed registration through its API.
  • You want tax handled without a separate subscription: Whop's collect-and-remit option calculates, files, and remits sales tax and VAT for 2% per transaction, with no monthly plan or registration caps.

Whop vs Stripe FAQ

Is Whop a Stripe alternative?

Yes, Whop is an alternative to Stripe for businesses that need to accept payments, manage subscriptions, and pay recipients. It also offers embedded financial infrastructure, tax services, and customer acquisition tools, making it particularly relevant for marketplaces, platforms, and online businesses.

Is Whop cheaper than Stripe?

Whop's standard domestic card processing rate is 2.7% + $0.30 per transaction, compared with Stripe's 2.9% + $0.30. On 200 payments of $50, that's $330 with Whop versus $350 with Stripe. However, total costs depend on which services you use, including billing, tax, fraud prevention, and payouts. In our example course marketplace above, a first year costs $7,880 on Whop versus $10,820 on Stripe.

Does Whop handle sales tax and VAT?

Yes. Whop can calculate and collect sales tax and VAT at checkout. Its collect-and-remit service also handles filing and remittance in supported US jurisdictions, the UK, and the EU. Where Whop doesn't remit taxes on your behalf, you can use its collect-only option and manage filing and remittance yourself.

Which pays out faster, Whop or Stripe?

Both support fast payouts, but timing depends on your country, payment method, and account eligibility. Whop offers instant bank deposits (RTP) and Venmo payouts that arrive within minutes where supported. Stripe's Instant Payouts typically arrive within 30 minutes, including on weekends and holidays.

Can I use Stripe and Whop together?

Yes. Businesses can run different products or payment flows on each provider. Whop's payment orchestration is also integrated with Stripe, alongside Checkout.com, Adyen, Airwallex, and others, routing each payment to the provider most likely to approve it.

Can I migrate from Stripe to Whop?

Yes. Whop Migrations transfers active and trialing subscriptions, along with customers' saved card details, from Stripe to Whop. Customers are charged on their normal renewal date without re-entering payment details or signing up again, and their Stripe subscriptions are set to cancel at the end of the current billing period so they aren't billed twice.
